RESILIENT MIMOSA

To me this saying has nothing to do with precipitation or vegetation, but rather transition. This April was transitional month for me. I made decisions that left me caught in the rain and now I am just waiting for what’s next. Today I am stuck in the remains of the rain, but tomorrow is the beginning of May. May is the bar bathroom with the hand dryer that will bring me back to life from the downpour I got caught in. I do believe that my April showers will bring me May flowers. The mimosa is a flower, after all.

The genus Mimosa has had a tortuous history, having gone through periods of splitting and lumping, leaving it with over 3,000 names. I too, am a struggling mimosa. I find my hair splitting and my midsection lumping, while I acquire all sorts of names at Starbucks. I feel like I am constantly reinventing who I am, although I don’t seem to be the best inventor. But the great inventor wasn’t such until his first great invention.

Mimosas are among the few plants capable of rapid movement. I am not stuck; I have the ability to grow and to move. There are a myriad of opportunities in this city and I’m going to grab at them like a venus flytrap. Mimosas begin blooming in May, so I think I just May be OK. Here’s to Maymosas and a blooming and fruitful bank account.
