TASTES LIKE BURNING

Every degree the temperature rises is like adding fuel to the fire. Everyone is a little more irritable, every noise is a little louder and every commute is a little longer.

For the record, Colorado gets real hot in the summer. I’ve been asked at least twice now if it’s still snowing there. But Colorado doesn’t get NYC hot. Here it’s as if the heat is spewing up from the ground or from all around, but definitely not from the sun because most of the time you can’t even see it.

Going down into the subway is like willingly checking yourself into hell. There’s nothing like a hot subway breeze. It is also guaranteed that the hotter the day, the longer the wait. You will see three trains go by on the third track and you’re not sure if you’re hallucinating or if hell is just taunting you. There’s nothing grosser than jamming yourself into a packed subway with a bunch of strangers – oh wait yes there is, make everybody real sweaty. But the cars are air conditioned and you can’t help but let out a sigh of relief once you make it on. Everyone’s spirits (and armpits) lift and you can all dry your sweat on each other.

Humidity doesn’t look good on anyone. I love spending an hour getting ready to only step outside and completely come undone. My hair is instantly frazzled and I look like I put on enough eye make up for four eyes. Girls do have a leg up on the men of the corporate world (a very sweaty leg). Although my dress doesn’t soak up the sweat dripping down my legs, you can’t help but feel the pain for the men in suits and you can usually see it. Gold Bond usage must be rampant in this city.

Either we are complaining about it being too hot or too cold outside and we just have to deal (but what else is there to talk about on the elevator?) My remedy for extreme heat: lock yourself in an air conditioned room and get to mimosa-ing. Break out the champagne glasses because it’s TOASTY out!
